Girlfriend asks UP man for marriage, he beheads her

NEW DELHI: A UP man has been arrested for allegedly beheading his girlfriend after she repeatedly asked him to marry her,

police

said on Sunday.
The case came to light on Friday when police discovered a headless body near Jagannathpur village. Additional Superintendent of Police (Rural) Durga Prasad Tiwari said the victim was identified a day later as a 26-year-old woman who had been living with her parents after marriage.
Following an investigation, police arrested 24-year-old Asif Raza, also known as Faizan, a local motorcycle mechanic. During questioning, he confessed to the murder, stating that he killed his girlfriend because she had been pressuring him to marry her, Tiwari said.
Police revealed that Faizan was influenced by the Telugu film Salaar, which he had watched before committing the crime. He lured the woman to a canal on 6 March, where he beheaded her with a makeshift weapon and hid her head separately.
Faizan was caught while trying to flee to Nepal on Sunday. Police recovered the victim’s head, the murder weapon, and other evidence. He has been sent to jail under judicial custody.
