NEW DELHI: In a daring
rescue operation
, personnel from the
Police Marine Force
(PMF) saved 10
stranded fishermen
who were drifting helplessly in a distressed dinghy near Long Island in the Andaman and Nicobar island.
According to DGP (Andaman) HGS Dhaliwal, the drama unfolded during a routine patrol by the PMF Rangat team onboard the
Fast Interceptor Boat
FIB Suntook.
"The crew spotted the dinghy, which was carrying fishermen from Junglighat, drifting aimlessly due to engine failure. The desperate fishermen were signalling for help, seeing which the PMF Rangat team sprang into action," Dhaliwal said.
Without hesitation, the crew swiftly intercepted the dinghy, ensuring the safety of those onboard. They then towed the vessel to Rangat Bay, where necessary repairs were facilitated. After a brief delay, the fishermen were able to resume their journey safely to Sri Vijayapuram.
The heroic rescue has earned the PMF Rangat team widespread praise for their commendable display of vigilance and swift response. "Their selfless actions have not only saved lives but also reinforced the importance of maritime safety and the critical role played by rescue teams in protecting those at sea," Dhaliwal further said.
