PM Modi said that the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force have complete freedom to choose the method, target, and timing for retaliation. He expressed full confidence in the professional capabilities of the military and reiterated the national resolve to crush terrorism. He made this statement at a high-level meeting with Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, and the three service chiefs (Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi, Air Force Chief Air Marshal A.P. Singh, and Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh Tripathi). The meeting took place at the PM's residence in New Delhi, and was followed by the second meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security on 30 April. After the Pahalgam attack, many Indian leaders and citizens have raised the demand to "take back" PoK. However, the "free hand" given to the army does not directly mean military action on PoK. It is mainly focused on action against terrorist bases, especially Pakistan-backed terrorism.
