This Target maxi dress looks way more expensive than $26 — of course, I bought 2

When the temperatures rise, I reach for a maxi dress. They're stylish, breezy and feel like the closest thing to wearing pajamas (without actually wearing pajamas, of course). I pop one on with flip-flops to take my dog out and pair one with heels for dinner — the right maxi dress can take you from day to night. I have quite a collection, but I just found my new favorite at Target. The A New Day Seersucker Maxi A-Line Dress has adjustable straps, a flattering V-neck, a forgiving A-line skirt and pockets. Plus, it's just $26.

Looking for an easy throw-on-and-go style? This is it — and at this price, maybe you'll want to get more than one. It comes in navy floral, black, white and coral.

Pros

  • Flowy, forgiving shape
  • Practical pockets
  • Adjustable straps
  • Fabric feels expensive
  • Stretchy shirring on the back

Cons

  • May be too much fabric for some

When I first saw this dress, I was drawn to the navy floral. Once I tried it on, I purchased a second one in black. Now I'm considering getting it in white. (It also comes in coral!)

I like that the bodice is fitted, but not uncomfortably tight — there's elastic shirring on the back that stretches to hug your curves. I also love the seersucker fabric. It's a soft cotton-spandex blend that has some weight but still feels breezy. It also holds its shape as I wear it and looks more expensive than it is!

To be honest, I wasn't sure if I'd like the empire waist. And this is not a fitted or even a relaxed dress — it has some puff to it. But that turned out to be why I like it. Even on days when I'm feeling insecure, I can look done up and feel my best in this throw-on-and-go style.

On Target's website, about 50 shoppers have given it a five-star rating so far. "I adore this dress, and so does someone everywhere I've worn it. I've gotten compliments left and right!" said one buyer. "It's flattering and comfortable and easy to wear as a casual summer dress, and also easy to dress up."

"Flowy, beautiful dress. I wish there were more colors!" said a similarly obsessed shopper. "Love the skirt volume and length. ... The billowy oversized look is the vibe and I'm here for it. Seersucker fabric is thick enough to not need a bra. Can't wait to wear this over the summer!"

Another reviewer mentioned that they could potentially wear it sans undergarments: "I'm chesty and the style may allow me to go braless, which is rare for me."

Of course, this dress isn't for everyone. Some shoppers said they felt overwhelmed by the voluminous skirt.

"There is a lot of fabric in the dress — if that doesn't bother you, it's adorable," said a customer who decided to return the dress for a smaller size.

"Overall, it's a nice dress but too much material. Too much poof," said a final reviewer, adding that the "material is fairly weighty and seems well made."

Don't forget: It has pockets! Who doesn't love a dress with pockets?

Not sure what shoes to pair with this maxi dress? Target has plenty of cute sandals, but I especially love this ruffled raffia pair.

These sandals have a low heel and a memory foam insole, so they're basically the epitome of cute and comfy

One five-star reviewer said: "Just the right amount of heel. I will wear them so much in the spring paired with a denim jacket, and all through the summer with shorts, skirts and dresses."
