Believe it or not, there are still some products out there that will stand the test of time. (Amazon, Patagonia, Target)
Shopping should be fun, right? It can be, but it's not always that simple, especially when you're buying big-ticket items and products you plan on using daily for the long haul. To make sure you spend your hard-earned money on the right things, we've rounded up 20 products that we, as Yahoo shopping pros, have used day in and day out for years. After all, buying something that lasts is one of the best ways to spend wisely.
If you're looking for "buy it for life," one-and-done products, you're sure to find some inspiration here — and our shopping-obsessed staff will explain why these buys are that good. Curious to see what won us over? Cookware was a popular category, with Le Creuset's iconic round Dutch oven, a stainless steel All-Clad cookware set and a pro baker-approved KitchenAid Stand Mixer as standouts. Long-lasting men's and women's outerwear also made the cut, with this Patagonia fleece jacket and a super-insulated North Face bestseller scoring high marks.
Whether you're looking for hiking boots with incredible ankle support or a sleek Bluetooth speaker that won't look too "techy" in your well-decorated living room, there's so much more where that came from.
"I might not bake professionally anymore, but I still spend a ton of time in the kitchen, and this mixer's been my right-hand appliance for years. While the tilt-head KitchenAid models might be the most popular, I much prefer this bowl-lift design, as it's far more sturdy and feels like a more commercial-grade mixer. It's always able to handle the thickest doughs and batters, and I use it for everything from whipping up meringue to kneading homemade bread dough. It's not the cheapest mixer on the market, but for avid home cooks and bakers, it's the one I'd recommend. This workhorse was built to last!" — Britt Ross, Senior Deals Writer
"I initially got this Kindle to help survive a 16-plus hour flight to China and that was — wait for it — over eight years ago. Amazon has released several versions in the time since, but my old, trusty e-reader is still kicking, so there's been no need to upgrade it for one of the newer models. It goes with me wherever I go — whether I'm trying to pass the time on a long train journey or simply want some (fictional) company at the beach or on my daily subway commute. I don't think you need all the bells and whistles to step into a good read (and our tech editor Rick Broida, who recently tested different e-readers, agrees). This model has a paper-like display (no glare!), adjustable dimmers and an impressive battery life that'll last from the first to last page. But my favorite part is that it's just for reading; no text messages, emails or notifications take me away from a story, which is a welcome change from, well, everything else." — Amanda Garrity, Gifting Editor
"I've had these hiking shoes for at least seven years. Only the fuzziest of old hiking memories are without them and probably better forgotten, because hiking in tennis shoes led to several close calls. Importantly, these hiking boots (and any hiking boot really) offer ankle support which is a must for me when navigating tree roots and rocks. I've put the ankle support to the test (repeatedly) and they have kept me stable every time. While the ankle protection is high on the side, it's not as high on the back, which saves you from a lot of uncomfortable rubbing but does still require long socks to prevent irritation on your Achilles — honestly, that's the only part of the shoe that I even needed to adjust to." — Amanda Rickert, Senior Operations Analyst
"I purchased my classic Squatty Potty back in late 2016, and thanks to regular cleaning, it shows no signs of any wear or tear — and I can't imagine that would happen unless you jumped up and down on the thing! But this little bathroom wonder has been a necessity since then, because it helps make 'go time' more comfortable and strain-free. Squatty Potty is intended to position us so that we can unburden our bowels in the way our bodies are supposed to, point blank. It's not the sexiest product in the world, but there's a noticeable difference whenever I have to 'go without.' And considering just how much time we spend in the bathroom in our lives, every little bit certainly counts when it comes to making the experience a little more frustration-free." — Carrie McCabe, Senior Deals Writer
"My family lives in all corners of the U.S. My brother is down south, my parents are out west and I'm in the Northeast. Visiting them always means a plane trip, so I decided many years ago to splurge on an Away carry-on suitcase. I'd tried many before and I've tried many since; nothing compares. The ease with which the wheels move is unmatched, and the plastic outer is insanely durable. My oldest Away carry-on is over six years old, and while it has its fair share of scratches and scuffs care of TSA, it still works just as well as it did when I first got it. I'm so obsessed with this bag that I've even gifted it to loved ones and they all agree — best suitcase ever." — Jeanine Edwards, Shopping Director

"If you're asking yourself whether you need a soda machine, you do. When you can control the level of carbonation in your drinks, it opens up a whole new world of cocktails and alcohol-free mixed drinks. In the nearly two years I've owned this, it's made every drink better. Not only that, but I've likely saved hundreds of dollars on carbonated drinks and subpar soda waters since I've bought it. There are less expensive SodaStreams, but the Art has a retro design that looks great on my counter. And, thanks to the sturdy control, it's super easy to use and control. Plus, it feels more premium overall than other models." — Janelle Randazza, Commerce Editor
"This is an expensive comforter. It's also worth every penny. It's the most generously sized and fluffy option I've ever owned, and it's hypoallergenic, so it's great for anyone with allergies. I don't totally understand the 'ClimaSense technology' used to make this thing, but what I do know is that I sweat at night under any other comforter. This one really works! I also love that it has loops all around the edge (the duvet cover has corresponding ties), so everything stays perfectly in place no matter how much I toss and turn." — Jessica Dodell-Feder, Senior Home & Garden Editor
"When I first moved into my home, I was on a mission to find a Bluetooth speaker that didn't look like... well... a Bluetooth speaker. I looked at tons of options recommended by friends and pros, but all of them looked a bit too techy and didn't blend in with my decor. I've always been a huge fan of Marshall's vintage amp aesthetic, so I did some research and eventually went with the Woburn III. It packs a serious punch in the sound department (it's one of Marshall's top-of-the-line products, after all), but its most underrated feature is its design. It basically looks like an art piece no matter where you place it. Its vegan leather body and gold accents make it stand out in the right ways. Plus, you can connect it to any device via Bluetooth or an auxiliary cord. I've had mine for more than five years now and use it every weekend during my cleaning Sundays. To this day, it still looks like I just took it out of the box." — Moriba Cummings, Trending Writer
"I've been wearing Patagonia's Retro-X fleece jackets for longer than my daughter's been alive — and she's 16! These jackets were a staple at my New England boarding school, and I've pretty much loved them ever since. As someone who runs cold, I love how insulating this jacket is without being too bulky or heavy. It's plenty warm on its own, but for extra cold days, I can layer a sweater underneath to really block out the chill. During the spring and fall, this is my go-to dog-walking jacket and it's also my go-to for going to the grocery store or weekend errands. There are three spacious pockets that can fit my keys, wallet and phone, so I don't even have to carry a bag when I wear it. Can't say enough good things about this piece." — Jeanine Edwards, Shopping Director
"I confess that I'm far from an expert cook and generally prefer the ease of nonstick pots and pans. That said, my husband is a more discerning chef, and this set from All-Clad — Yahoo's pick for best cookware splurge — has outlasted every piece of nonstick I've ever had, easily. It performs just as well now as it did 15 years ago, when we got it. It's just so sturdy, despite the fact that I pretty much just toss all these pieces haphazardly in a cabinet when they're not in use. Sorry not sorry, but nothing is babied in this house!" — Saundra Latham, Commerce Editor
"Every time I tell someone I work in product testing, they say, 'What's the best product you've ever tried?' The answer is always the same: The Big Blanket. It's a 10-by-10-foot blanket that's incredibly soft, cozy and warm. I bought it in 2019 and have used it religiously since then. We snuggle with it on the couch, use it as an extra comforter during the winter, and carry it across state lines when we're staying at an Airbnb or hotel. It stands up well to toddler tantrums, clawing cats, people who kick in their sleep, and general wear and tear that comes along with using it on a near-daily basis. It still looks and feels as great as it did the day I bought it." — Kate Ellsworth, Commerce Editor, AOL
"I added to my Le Creuset collection with the French brand's round Dutch oven in the iconic Flame shade (beloved by the likes of chefs Julia Child and Ina Garten and author Joan Didion, among many others) and it's been the centerpiece of my kitchen — quite literally — ever since. I use it for roasts, soups, stews and more. I display it on a shelf above my sink for a pop of color. I've owned this for several years, and similarly enameled cookware from Le Creuset for much longer, and everything has held up over time with practically no signs of wear. I also own and love the brand's 3-piece Stoneware Heritage Set for another (more budget-friendly) option you'll treasure forever." — Kristin Granero, Senior Commerce Writer
"I squeezed my feet into high heels for way too many years when I was younger and I'm paying for it now. Most shoes that aren't a sneaker hurt my feet after just an hour or so, but not the Birkenstock Arizona sandals. When the weather is warm, I basically live in the slides. I wear them everywhere, with everything. Running errands, by the pool, on dates with my partner, traveling — they're my go-to. These were the only shoes I packed for a 10-day trip to Spain and Portugal a few years back and my feet never hurt at all. Same for the week I spent walking around Montreal and Quebec City in 2022. Can't imagine my life without these sandals!" — Jeanine Edwards, Shopping Director

"A fellow home editor and stylist recommended this to me when I was looking for a simple cotton rug. Dash & Albert is famous for their woven, striped rugs and this one is a perfect example of what they do best. The blue and white stripes look great anywhere, whether your style is farmhouse, coastal, modern or something totally different. I live in a cabin, and I love how it looks against the log walls. Cotton rugs can wear out if you keep them in high-traffic areas, but I've had this one for close to a decade and it looks just as it did the day I got it, even though it's mostly cream colored — and I have a very messy dog who sheds a ton. The secret is that I toss it in the washing machine whenever it starts looking dingy. I don't think it's technically considered a washable rug, but because it's cotton, it works out great. I machine-dry it too! (FYI, I have the lighter blue version, which doesn't seem to be in stock many places, but the navy is just as pretty and maybe even more versatile)." — Jessica Dodell-Feder, Senior Home & Garden Editor
"I've owned several pieces of Calpak luggage for years and despite a good amount of traveling — including over a month spent bopping to different countries in South America — they've held up great. Aside from the luggage being well-made and looking sleek, I love how Calpak offers a wide range of accessories for complementing your luggage and customizing your overall gear depending on a given trip and needs. Save with bundles and promotions: The Evry Starter Bundle comes with two suitcases and accessories, usually on sale for around $300, while the slightly elevated, three-piece Ambeur set was on sale for $500 last time I checked. I also have the Luka Backpack and Luka Mini Belt Bag. These pieces, the Luka Duffel and the luggage overall are popular among friends and other travelers I've spoken to." — Kristin Granero, Senior Commerce Writer
"When shopping for outerwear, I always have one thing top of mind: I have to make sure I'll want to wear this year after year. So, I don't mind spending a little extra on a brand that I trust with insulation that I know won't weaken after a couple years of wear. That's exactly the case with this jacket from The North Face. I've had it going on five years now and it's my go-to for those blistering winter days when I just don't feel like busting out a bulky parka. It has a simple design and slightly cropped silhouette that doesn't look too baggy. Plus, it has just enough room for me to layer a sweater underneath if I need a little extra warmth. It's also water-repellent, has a hood tucked away inside the collar and has 700-fill goose down insulation that keeps me toasty, but not overheated. It's my most-worn winter jacket and hasn't steered me wrong yet." — Moriba Cummings, Trending Writer
"Yes, I realize $300 is a ridiculous amount to pay for a coffee maker when you can get one for $20. But does yours match your kitchen cabinets exactly? Has yours made consistently robust, delightful joe every single day for years? OK, maybe it does, but I'm still in love with this one. First off, it's gorgeous. Second off, yes, it matches my navy cabinets, which is not important, but yet it is. (I LOVE NAVY.) This looks complicated, but it's really a simple drip coffee pot with minimal bells and whistles. It doesn't even have a timer and I don't care! The materials are top notch, with a metal casing and a copper boiling element that makes the same temperature coffee every.single.time. The brand stands by its stuff, offering an impressive five-year warranty. I'll admit that I first got this for its looks. So stunning! I also appreciated that it's handmade in the Netherlands, because it sounds cool. But then I fell for its loyal companionship and speedy results. It'll brew 40 ounces in about five minutes with just the flick of one button. ... Sending gratitude to the coffee gods above. I wouldn't be awake enough to type this if it wasn't for you, Moccamaster." — Nicole Sforza, Executive Editor

"After a lovely, luxurious weekend at The Greenbrier in West Virginia many, many years ago, I splurged on one of the resort's thick, warm, weighty terry bath robes. It's just as much of a treat now as it was then, and it has washed beautifully time and time again without pilling or snagging. Well, a friend has this spa-inspired robe from The Company Store and it's shockingly similar — minus the fancy hotel embroidery of course — so I'm confident recommending it as a stand-in. It is indeed made in Turkey from long-staple Turkish cotton, and it's the kind of robe that'll have you demanding cucumber slices and a massage, stat." — Saundra Latham, Commerce Editor
"At this point, I'm sure you've heard about Charlotte Tilbury's Flawless Filter. Not only is it beloved by celebs and social media users alike, but I can confirm it definitely lives up to the hype. The innovative formula uses smoothing airbrush polymers that give your skin a 'poreless, flawless-looking finish' — essentially making it look like you're using a camera filter in real life. While technically a primer, I use it as a foundation, and nearly every time I've worn it over the past few years, someone has commented on how great my skin looks or how glowy my complexion is. It is easily my most used makeup product." — Rebecca Carhart, Style Editor
"I've owned this foam hybrid mattress from Casper for around three years now and it's still as comfortable and supportive as when I got it, no signs of bulking or caving. I am not kidding when I say it feels like you're floating on a plush cloud. It's soft yet still supportive and very breathable — particularly important for foam mattresses. I've surrendered it to some visitors and everyone comments on how much they love it and how well they're able to sleep through the night. It's definitely a splurge, but it often goes on sale — a worthy investment for those who can spring it considering how important sleep is, and that a third of our lives are spent trying to catch some shut-eye." — Kristin Granero, Senior Commerce Writer
